Last year nearly 137 Billion searches were made on basically 5 search engine
(Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Ask, & AOL). In 2008 Google had 62% of the searches
and the balance was split amount the remaining 4. Hang in their I will have the 2010 figures shortly.
So- the main search engine we want to work on pleasing is Google. Our prime
objective is to be well ranked with Google.
On Google you have 2 basic ways of showing up on a search. One way is to
show up on the first page of a search that describes your web site. The second
way is to have an Add that shows up on the first page of the search. We will
address each of these two methods separately.
To have your web site show up in a search on Google there are several points
Google is looking for.
First you have to have submitted your web site to Google and
the Google "spider" has had to crawl your site. OK so how scare at Halloween and October
is a spider and what is that all about?
It is simply a device that Google uses to look at and analyse your web site.
What is Google looking for on your site so they give you a good placement in
the search? There are all sorts of pun dents out their that say they know, but there are
only two or three Google Employees that really know.
Generally they are looking for an interesting site rich in content, that lots of people will go to.
The site must have relevant "key words" and the key words must appear not only in the
headings of the web site in the appropriate place, but it must also have these key
words in the body of the web sits. We can go into key words later but for right now
lets switch to Google Add's and Google Add Words.
